What's Hot in CF

This week What's Hot in Central Florida  on WMFE is all about doing it up big, including big fun at  Orlando Brewing's Oktoberfest  , big costumes and one of the year's biggest events at  The Headdress Ball  and a girl with big dreams in Miss Firecracker Contest at Annie Russell. I hope my attempt to do my usual sign off with a little Oktoberfest flair - in German - goes over well....Sammy, who speaks German fluently, tried to help me with the pronunciation but it would be just like me to end up doing it wrong and saying something dirty which could be either very good or very bad. :) You can find out by listening today at 4:32 pm on WMFE 90.7 FM! Or click the first link at the top of this page to listen any time! Also don't forget to check out my own event The Queen and I ,  a dopey comedy about a grumpy witch that will make you happy. It's my first play and I couldn't e more psyched about it - I'm working with the most awesome people in town and I k

Ten Mind-Blowing Discoveries ---- the last column

Implanting memories in mice, the yummy work otters do for the environment, the varied terrain of Mars, remote control cockroaches and the wild gender bending and sexual creativity that goes on in the world of animals….some awesomely cool stuff in my Alternet column “ Ten Mind-Blowing Discoveries This Week .” And very, very sadly for me, also my last. Alternet has decided not to run the column anymore which I wish wasn't the case because I loved researching all those cool things about the amazing natural and scientific world, putting it together so that it was hopefully fun and readable but mostly all the people who supported it: I appreciate all your feedback and all your sharing-liking-and-clicking efforts. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.  At the moment I'm considering taking some time off freelance and doing some other kinds of writing ---like the play I've got coming up in October (see previous post for details and most importantly

What's Hot in CF! And upcoming events by yours truly...

Listen for me today on  What's Hot in Central Florida at 4:32 PM on WMFE 90.7 FM  for the skinny on what to do this weekend and this week including the two-location art opening  Keeping Haiti in Our Hearts ,  Mexico Vive!  at Bob Carr Performing Arts Center  and the  Global Peace Film Festival  which starts Tuesday and runs through next weekend with tons of fascinating shorts and documentaries from around the world - check it out in advance to get as much as you can out of this event! But wait! There's more! Today I'm also I'm promoting a show of my own -"The Queen and I," a comedy about love, power and what happens when The Wicked Queen goes to do her "Mirror, Mirror on the wall..." schtick and finds  entirely  the wrong person on the other side of the glass. The show opens OCTOBER 6 at the Footlights Theater at Parliament House and you can go to  Wanzie Presents  for ticket information (I've seen that the site is having a few technical

Making a splash: What's hot in CF on WMFE

Image
Maybe it's just because I've been to so many great pool parties this summer or maybe because it's still  summer despite what the calendar says, but Making a Splash is the theme of What's Hot in Central Florida this weekend and I'm sure some lucky dogs will get splashed with Jell-O at the Orlando Psycho City Derby Girls Jell-O wrestling even TONIGHT at at Club 57 West. Some more people making a spalsh this weekend will be the folks at Soaked Orlando , the city's first extreme water sports festival and there are some faux celebrities ready to make a splash at the Sunburst Celebrity Impersonators and Tribute Artists convention. This is a personal favorite - I've been and loved seeing the parade of "celebs" (there's a group pic above from the website) so hope you enjoy! Listen for me on WMFE 90.7 FM at 4:32 pm or click this link to go to the website . See you out there!
