Liz on NatGeo: Surprising Animals That Sport Mustaches

Image
Mustaches are everywhere - on  sunglasses ,  rings , even  on your baby . They're also on lots of animals.      This is one of my favorite NatGeo stories ever:  Surprising Animals That Sport Mustaches . I've done many since but this is a favorite not just because I learned about some new animals (bearded pig, anyone?) but because I think the fun of writing it gets passed on to the reader. I hope so! Enjoy.                                             What did you do in the war, Colonel Fluffy Face?

Liz in Alternet: Why Wait for Sex?

Image
When I say I’ve found the connection between pumpkins and sex, please don’t take it to mean anything involving their simultaneous use. Yes, Beavis, we can all imagine the possibilities . But this isn’t about gourd eroticism. This is about waiting.  Pumpkin is seasonal; you have to wait for it in as much as you have to wait for anything in modern America, besides Downton Abbey or a kidney.  Well, you don’t have to wait.  You can have pumpkin pie on July 4th…it’s just better around the fireplace than the swimming pool. Timing matters. And that’s what pumpkin and sex have in common. You can jump right in but if you hold off for a just-right moment it can be that much better. I’m so proud of this story on Alternet, A Surprising Way to Amp Up Sexual Satisfaction , that talks about how age and experience have given me the ability to take my time in a way that my younger, scared-to-miss-anything self wasn’t so great at.

Here Kitty Kitty! Your Weird Cat Questions on NatGeo!

Last week I definitely felt like a freelance blogger for CatGeo...after getting one cat question I asked if you had any others and was happy to get a wealth of responses. Working on the rest now but here are some on NatGeo's Weird & Wild blog:  Ask Your Weird Animal Questions: The Truth About Your Cats

Look at this guy! Cute as a bug, right? Now imagine about 20 million of them, pissed off after having been in a truck accident. It happened. How do you handle swarms of angry bees? Why do gnats bug you when you're bleeding? And what do you call a a group of sharks besides "I'm gettin' outta here?" Find out on  Ask Your Weird Animal Questions: Swarms Decoded  and please send me your Weird Animal Questions on Twitter and Facebook!
