What's Hot in Central Florida: Pumpkins, Pies & Plays

This weekend what's hot in Central Florida mostly feels like Central Florida: with temps climbing up to 90 today, according to weather.com at least, getting into the autumnal spirit is as difficult as getting in a romantic mood with Loony Tunes music playing in the background. Thank goodness the Mennello Museum of American Art will be hosting "Pumpkins & Pies," on Saturday the name alone seeming capable of making the temperature plummet a few degrees and putting one in a fall mood.
The Orlando Ballet also resurrects The Vampires' Ball, a gorgeous series of vignettes about monster culture which will not only get you in a Halloween vibe but make you want to stay in artistic director Robert Hill's beautiful vision.
And in a nod to the non-holiday vibe of the weather a non-holiday-related event - yes, I acknowledge there are a few of those going on - the legendary ska band The Toasters will be here at the Social on Sunday. Listen for me on WMFE 90.7 FM at 4:32 PM today for the skinny!

And if course, my very first play, "The Queen and I," has two more weeks at the Parliament House! It's about the Wicked Queen (Snow White's stepmom) who goes to her magic mirror and finds a talkative temp where her usual spirit should be. Elizabeth Murff vamps it up as the best wicked Queen I could ever imagine (I wrote it with her in mind for the part), Josh-Eads Brown (aka Ginger Minj) is perfect as her long-suffering servant Chaos (it's amazing to me that a guy can so accurately depict what it's life to suffer from a yeast infection) and Addison Taylor is the bff in the mirror that you'll want to take home with you, a mirror designed by installation artist Doug Rhodehamel. Only two more shows so get your tickets today and come see us!!
