WMFE: What's Hot in CF and "Christmas in the Park" hosted by.....


This week on What's Hot in Central Florida on WMFE 90.7 FM we have Duane Hanson's stunningly life-like sculptures at the Museum of Florida Art in Deland, The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of a “Christmas Carol,” at Orlando Shakespeare Theatre and Broadway Brunch at Hamburger Mary's, featuring Ginger Minj and Theminx Minx, your charming, funny and eminently watchable hosts bringing you a large cast of talented performers: definitely worth getting presentable earlier than you might usually do on a Sunday....except for church. And you can do Hail Marys at home....for Bloody Marys I'd recommend this.
      Also this Saturday check out the John Lennon Tribute Concert to benefit the Heartstrings Foundation: there will be over 30 performers and what better time of year for consideration and homage to someone who was an icon of love and peace?

Also I couldn't be happier to tell you that this year's Christmas in the Park, a collaborative effort of the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art and the Bach Festival will be broadcast for the first time by WMFE - and I have the honor of hosting the event! I'll have interviews with Dr. John Sinclair of director of the Bach Festival Choir and Dr. Lawrence Ruggiero, executive director of the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art plus nearly two full hours of holiday favorites by the Bach Festival Choir, Youth Choir and Brass Ensemble. It was an inspiring evening and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did (and hopefully we'll make you feel like you were there!). Broadcast times are:

Say Ahhhhh: Drive-Thru Pap Smears in the COVID era

        Listening to my friends talk about the COVID-19 test I thought it was going to feel like getting a lobotomy.      “They stick a swab so far up your nose, I felt like it was going into the back of my eye,” one said, but when free drive-through testing was offered in my little Florida beach town I went. I can pinch a penny until Lincoln starts crying and if something is free, I’m going to get one, even if it means being skewered like a corn dog.  The test was mildly irritating. You tilt your head back and they do, indeed, poke a swab up your snoot farther than you’d expect it to go. It felt like I’d been bike riding and got ladybug stuck up my nose, a sensation which lasted about 45 minutes after the actual sticking. It wasn’t as bad as I anticipated, but I’d anticipated getting my eyeballs yoinked out through my nostrils.  Anything else was emotional found money.
