What Happens When a Tiger Has A Toothache?

Why Do Plant-Eating Gorillas Have Big, Sharp Teeth? was one of my favorite NatGeo stories to write because it lead me to  Peter Emily, a Colorado dentist who works on exotic animals at zoos and in sanctuaries. It was an eye opener to me that polar bears ever even needed root canals but Dr. Emily's pioneering spirit and compassion is a reminder that captive exotics aren't just a day's entertainment, but have needs just like we do. The Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation raises money to help captive exotic animals all over the world. Now doesn't that make you smile?
